College Dorm Life - Decorations & Ideas

As a few of you might know, I'm currently living in a dorm at the school that I'm studying at as a Freshman. I thought it was a cool idea to post some photos and some background on them since a few of you might be going off to college in a few months. Right now, I'm living in one of the freshmen dorm from school. The building that I live in is quite new so a lot of dorms in other schools might not look like this. I've seen some dorms that look a lot better than mine, so I'm in no way saying mine is better or anything like that. I'm only talking about the quality of the furniture, cooling system, and size of the room.

Me and my roommate divided the room in half because this is what we thought worked for us. We enjoy our beds lofted because it's nice up there. I have to say I was so scared the first week or so to fall off, but I can honestly say I have never fallen or experienced anything like that.

I had another roommate in the first semester but we didn't really get along and we no longer share a room. The room was arranged a bit different. Here is a photo of it:
Sure it looks nice, but it just didn't work for me at the time. I didn't like how it felt like it was more my roommate's room than mine. I'm only showing it because we both thought it was a really cool way of arranging and our whole hall thought so too. But enough of that, if anyone is interested in a post about roommates I will gladly make one. For now let's move on to speaking about my current living situation.

If you haven't yet realized, my side is obviously the black and white side of the photos. That's what I decided to decorate the room with. To be honest sometimes I wish I had more color, but in the end I like it how it is because it's comfortable for me. Being a beauty blogger my biggest concern is to organize my makeup and beauty stuff. So this is what I have come up with:

I have these drawers that hold all my makeup( I had to buy the top one this year because it was getting a little crowded on the bottom drawers). Brushes are in a black pencil cup from Target(link).I put my perfumes, lotions, and other bottles in that black container to the left of the photo. You can see how I organize my My Glam Bag and Birchbox stuff. I'm really proud of this little corner because it makes me feel really happy! I like how organize everything is and it's very easy to find stuff when I need it. Also, if you can tell, I have some jewelry hanging from under my bed. ;) Use that to your advantage.

You might have noticed I have quite a collection of the big drawers in my room and that's because that closet in the corner is not enough for me! It is quite small and for Massachusetts winters you need lots of layers to keep warm, so I have my coats in the closet and the rest of my stuff in drawers. I also keep food, hair irons, blowdryer, and other random stuff in the white drawers.

Here are my tips on what I suggest having to have a comfortable girly dorm space:

  • Buy Drawers - If you're like me, the space provided will not be enough!
  • Cushion for seat - My seat is very hard and without my cushion I would not last as long as I do when I start blogging or doing hw.
  • Colorful decorations - My old roommate was good with this one. She has a lot of things in pink. While pink is a little overwhelming, in a dorm rooms that feels like a jail cell sometimes, you need to have some life!
  • Extension cords - There will not be enough outlets for your stuff. I guarantee it.
  • Lights/Lamps - I don't know about other dorms, but I only have one light in my ceiling and it's awkwardly placed. It's useful to have a lamp in case your roommate is going to sleep early, or you are for that matter. The white lights also add a touch of magic to the room.
  • Fan - I have two fans because I always like to be a little cooler than normal. I love sleeping with my giant fan(which you can see in the first photo next to my printer). Also, some dorms have a temperature control for the whole building and sometimes it might be too cold or hot. We're lucky to have our own cooling system in our rooms, but for those room that don't have one, the fan is a must!
  • Bins/Containers - I use a lot of these to store lots of things. I put books, perfumes, medicines, and more in these. They have really cute ones at Target with patterns in all colors! I also use some office containers in my drawers from my desk to organize pencils, post-its and other school related stuff.
  • Mirror - Not sure if all dorms have mirrors, but mine has a little one by the door. As a girl I like to check my outfits and how they look so I long mirror is very important.
  • Plants - My roommate made a little pot with a plant at one of the activities in school, and I love how it adds life to the room! We keep it by the window, but don't forget to water it!
  • Command hooks - I love this these things! They are so handy and can be used for a variety of ways. I use it to hang bags inside my closet, and my towels behind the door. People use them around here for all sorts of things though.
  • Rug - The white one that it is in the middle of the room is one of our favorite areas of the room. We love to lay there when we're tired or just wanna sit in a comfy place. I suggest if you have a white one to put somewhere that will not be stepped on a lot because it will get dirty so fast!
  • White Board - It's fun to have one of these around. You can write to-do lists, dates, or other little notes.
  • Desk Planner - I bought one at Target for $1 and it's so cute. I love writing down events and deadlines!
  • Photos - Bring as many as you want for your room. I have seen all sorts of decorations with them (from covering a whole wall [which is not my favorite way but people do it], to how my roommate has them). It looks nice and it always reminds you of home!
This is all I can think of and if I remember more later I will add them on. I love living in a dorm and if you are going off to live in one, I'm sure you're going to enjoy it as well. We have a bigger room next semester so I will post photos on that too! Hope you enjoyed this and feel free to ask any questions! :)

Missing Glasses

If you didn't know, I wear glasses, or should I say wore because if you read the title of this post I have lost them! I was never one for wearing glasses. I don't have the best vision, and without I'm not as blind as other people I've met; however in the past 24 hours I've felt like I am one of those people. The story behind me wearing glasses was that I got a pair when I was in first grade. Was never one for wearing them and had a few more pairs through the years that I barely wore either. It wasn't until my freshman year in high school that I realized I should wear them more often. Without my "eyes" I see pretty blurry. Never have I realized how attached to them I was until this weekend. As soon as I sit to do something my first instinct is to look for them and it's really sad feeling when they're not there. I will compare this to losing a friend or a lover. Yes, horrible example but that's how upset I am. I'm lucky I can at least see what I'm typing.

I've changed the layout of my blog for this reason. I couldn't see a lot of the letters and now I can sympathize with anyone who couldn't read any of my posts either. I'm so very sorry!

Speaking of layout I have some plans for the blog for this summer. I finish in just a handful of days and I'm so excited to have more time to work on the blog and some other projects I have been thinking of starting!

Hope everyone is having a Happy Sunday and if you have glasses at this moment I would like to say I'm extremely jealous! Haha.

Oh, and today is one of my favorite blogger's (Angie from Your BFF!) birthday! Go say Happy Birthday or just stop by her page.

Nail of the Day 4/27/2012 - White with Black Outline Nails

Revlon 001 Sheer Sugar - Jordana 501 Black Mark

I hope you can tell how awesome these nails are because from the first time I saw these I knew I had to try this. A while ago I saw a photo that looked something like this and instantly decided these were the most interesting nails I've seen. Yes, they are very simple but boy are they hard to do. I just finished making these and I can honestly say that the nails in that photo probably took a couple of tries to get right. Unless you were born with steady hands and nails that aren't round on the side then you will probably find it a bit stressful to do these. I had enough problems piling on white nail polish because the one I had is so sheer, but on top of that the line was very difficult. They honestly look better from the side because my nails do curve a lot and the only way you can see the black better from the top is if I do a thicker line. But that wouldn't look so great from the side.

However, aside from my problems I think they came out great for being the first time I tried these. I will experiment with a color that is not so sheer and make cool designs(hopefully).

If anyone wants a DIY on this I will gladly do one. I still have another DIY post I've been meaning to do for someone who requested it a while ago.

Do you like these at all? What are your thoughts on these?

Real Techniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman

L to R : Pointed Foundation Brush - Contour Brush - Detailer Brush - Buffing Brush
L to R: Deluxe Crease Brush - Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush - Brow Brush - Base Shadow Brush - Accent Brush

L to R: Blush Brush - Stippling Brush
If you haven't heard of these brushes then let me introduce you to them. These brushes were created by Samantha Chapman from pixiwoo on YouTube. I heard about them through her because she uses them on her own videos most of the time. The color of the brushes themselves caught my attention and the fact that they look so fluffy also did. I wanted these for a long time because if she could easily apply her makeup with these and create beautiful looks, why couldn't I?

Back in December when I went back to Miami I decided I was going to go on a hunt for these. They sell them at Ulta and that's where I went. I went to multiple locations and called them when their stocks were coming in. Long story short I never ended up buying these in stores because they sell so fast!

I decided I was going to buy them especially on a day that the Ulta website was having some sort of sale back in January. I bought the Core Collection(orange) $18, Starter Kit(purple) $18, Stippling Brush(pink) $10, and Blush Brush(pink) $9. I chose these based on the brush that appealed to me. However they many more to choose from.

Now my thoughts. Well, from the Core Collection I'm in love with deluxe crease brush and I use that one for concealer. It's the best brush in this set in my opinion. My other favorite is the base shadow brush, which I use to blend eyeshadow. The Blush Brush is amazing and so soft - they all are!! I think these brushes are a great substitute if you can't afford to buy MAC or Sigma brushes all at once. They are above average quality and behave just as good as higher priced ones. My least favorite brushes from my the ones I own are the Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush  and Brow Brush. They aren't bad brushes but I think they should be a lot more steady with thickerbristles. They still work fine for their assigned tasks but I could definitely live without these two. The collection ones each come in a cool case, not the best quality but you can take them along with a few more in there! It also folds so you can sit the case up and place the brushes there while you do your makeup!

I can't wait to buy a few more from the new ones that have been added to the collection. :)

So how amazing do these brushes look? Would you get them? If you have them, what are your thoughts?

To check these brushes out visit the Real Techniques website or Ulta.com!

Photos of the Week #1

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great week. I've decided I'm going to try to do a weekly post on photos I take. I don't promise to do it every week because I'm horrible at grabbing my camera on a daily basis and shooting around, but I will try. They will mostly be similar photos and I think this will be a great idea since I love how the seasons change up here. I like to take a lot of photos of flowers, so you have been warned!

I hope this interests some of you because I'm really excited to be sharing all these cool shots with you. I have some awesome days where I'm more inspired that others like my Easter photos. So hopefully this will let me show you what I see around me.

Nail of the Day: 4/20/2012

If you follow me on Twitter you would have noticed I posted a very beautiful color on my nail last night. If you were wondering what is was, here it is: Teenage Dream by OPI. Uhuh! Straight from the Katy Perry OPI Collection. If you anything about me is that I love me some Katy and when this collection came out (and with the Crackle) I had to have it. Unfortunately I never got it... until December, when I found a mini set with all of them in. Imagine my excitement and of course I bought it. If you wanna see all the colors they are featured in my Miami Haul.

Looking at this particular color, I thought it was just a shimmery coat. But when I saw this color in this video I knew it was more than glitter. So a few days ago I packed on 3 coats of this baby, and Voila! This gorgeousness was born. The pictures don't do it justice. The way this color catches the sunlight is magical. I've decided this officially my favorite glitter color EVER!! :)

Have you guys tried this? Do you want it now?
;) haha

Have a great weekend everyone!

My thoughts on: The Hunger Games

Like most people right now, I have begun The Hunger Games series. Yes, I know everyone is talking about it. But at least I'm not completely going to spam you with posts about it.. or will I? Haha. I was lucky enough to randomly check my universities library online database and happened to see that they had ordered extra copy of the book. Immediately, I requested it and within a few days I had my hand on a brand new copy. I began reading it a couple of weeks ago and found time for it before going to sleep.
Starting the book took a while and I felt like the story of the games it self took forever to start. However, once it got inside the arena and it was hard to stop reading. The story line is so interesting and trying to find out who lives or die is so interesting. I loved Katniss Everdeen(the main character). She was quite a strong person throughout the whole story. Her intelligence is what drives this story and what makes it so great. I don't want to say too much in case you guys haven't read it yet.
I would definitely recommend this book to those of you who haven't read it yet. I can't wait to watch the movie and finally see what everyone is talking about!

What are your thoughts on The Hunger Games? Have you read it? Do you want to at all?
:)

L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Eternal Sunshine

As you might have seen in my CVS Haul, I picked up this lovely shadow!  As you can tell it is a beautiful shade of gold. My thoughts on this when I first saw it was that I don't usually like to buy individual shadows because if I like them too much I wouldn't like to carry a pot like this around. However, after the many reviews I've seen, I saw them the other day and decided to pick one up.
So, did I like it? Oh yeah I did. The shadow is so soft and and the color is so gorgeous. The only thing I noticed like many other bloggers have, is that it is much easier to pick it up with a dense brush than a fluffy brush. Other than I love it. I completely recommend this and I'm definitely going to try to get a few more ;)

What do you think of them so far? Have any of you tried it? Did ya like it?

Revlon Lip Butters

L to R : Raspberry Pie - Cotton Candy - Sweet Tart - Tutti Frutti - Creme Brulee

The Revlon lip butters have been creating quite a stir with everyone these days. This hasn't been an exception with me. I wanted them for a while and was lucky to find some when I went back home in December. I picked up  Creme Brulee, Cotton Candy, and Raspberry Pie. Although they are no substitute for lipstick, the lip butters give you the best of both worlds. You get color and moisture. This past week as you've hopefully seen in my CVS Haul, I picked up two more! I was so excited to get these because there are so many colors to choose from. In the end I got the ones in the photos about. I must say  Tutti Frutti is very orange so beware. I've found that if you wear Sweet Tart and then Tutti Frutti after, you get a very interesting shade of coral. It's so beautiful that I might be wearing that a lot!  I usually cover these with glosses though because I like how that looks. But to each their own, this might not be an option for everyone. I will add, that some of them are a bit dry. It might just be that I got a weird one, but after a while it looks chapped and weird. Overall they are all very moisturizing and have a great color payoff (especially Raspberry Pie!!).

Well these are my thoughts on these much loved products. What are your thoughts on them? Have you tried them? Do you want to? Any colors that have caught your eye?
:)

CVS Haul 4/12/2012

I haven't posted a haul post in a while and that's because I don't really get to buy things. Not only do I have to save the little I earn from Work Study, but I don't drive nor do I have a car with me on campus. It wouldn't be a good idea to bring one to Massachusetts anyways, I would need it when I go back home to Miami.

Anyways, this is what I picked up. I went for allergy medicine and came out with all this. I left some things behind because it was going over my limit. :x

In my bag was:

  • L'Oreal Lineur Intense in Carbon Black
  • L'Oreal 24hr Infallible Eye Shadow in Eternal Sunshine
  • Essie nail polish in Mochacino
  • Nicole by OPI - Kardashian Kolor - Follow Me On Glitter
  • Spoiled in I Gotta Confection To Make
  • Revlon Lip Butters in Tutti Frutti and Sweet Tart
  • L'Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer in Medium

The liner in the top of the photo I've tried before and this is my 3rd of these. I really love it. The L'Oreal shadow I really wanted to try because everyone has been talking about it. I was going to try the Color Tattooes but they only had 2 left(and they weren't colors I would wear)! The essie color is beautiful and I can't wait to try it. If you can't tell what the second color is I can happily tell you it's a polish by Nicole by OPI from the Kardashion Kolors. I've wanted this for a while and have passed by it a couple of times and have regretted not buying it. Revlon had a BOGO 50% off sale, so I got two more Lip butters. The last thing I got was the Magic Lumi concealer I've heard great things about.

Have you guys tried any of these things? What do you think of them? :)

April Glam Bag 2012

Yep, back-to-back happiness for me! I received this in the mail TODAY! I was very happy with everything I got in my April Glam Bag. As you can see above there many exciting things on here! My reaction to this was very funny since I kept digging in there to see if that was it. As if getting an Urban Decay pencil, lashes, a lip treatment and makeup brushes wasn't enough! Hahah. But honestly, I blame Glam Bag, they have completely spoiled me every month.

The theme for this bag was Girl's Night Out.
To read more on it check out the cards below.
(click on them to make bigger!)

All-Belle Lashes

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Radium

 Dermastore
Lip Quench-Moisture Infused Lip Treatment

My Glam Eyeshadow and (TWO) Eyeliner Brush

 My thoughts:
Aside from the fact that these are some awesome things, I love that they included things we will actually use. I could easily use all 5 of these things when I'm doing my makeup. I think the lashes are such a great idea. Although these kind are not for everyone at least it gives people who haven't tried them a chance to practice. Haha. I'm a big fan of fake lashes and I can't wait to try these.

The blue Urban Decay pencil is easily my favorite thing from all. I am a big fan of the pencils and I love blue eyeliners. I always wanted this color from them, and I'm glad I didn't buy it.

That lip treatment is so great! I'm currently wearing it right now and it's so nice. It's not sticky at all and it feels really smooth on your lips.

As for the brushes, I hope someone noticed there was an extra on in the last photo ;) YEP! They sent me TWO eyeliner brushes. This little mistake made me so happy because I love trying new eyeliner brushes all the time. I hunt them down in every store I go into. So far these brushes have been great so I look forward to using these.

If you haven't subscribed to Glam Bag I really suggest you do! I love getting these sooo much(if you couldn't tell by the many times I've said it so far!).

Are you guys subscribed to GB? If you're not, what do you think of what I got?
:)
