September 2012 Birchbox

This month's Birchbox is celebrating the start of new Fall trends, specifically the ones in the Vogue fashion issue. So, for this reason this month the box's theme was "The September Issue". It includes most of the popular trends going on right now, including nail polishes and items that "help you make new outfits". It also brought a booklet showing off these trends. The booklet was pretty cool and I thought was a good representation of what is trending now.

Color Club | Birchbox Custom Polish: This is probably my favorite part of this month's box! I have wanted a color like this for a while, and haven't gotten around to pick one up. So you can imagine how happy it made me to receive this gorgeous color? It's definitely a great color for Fall. Unusual indeed, but gorgeous! I also can't complain about the quality of it. With one coat you're pretty set. Definitely impressed with this brand, since this is my second sample of Color Club in a Birchbox.
Full size: $8

Jouer | Matte Moisture Tint: Receiving this did not make me happy at all. I suspected I had already received this on a previous box, and it looks like I was correct.. sort of. I received the "Luminizing Moisturize Tint", so I guess it's not the same. But it's almost the same. Anyways, I wish these samples brought more to really get a feel for them in a longer period of time. The product itself seems a tad dark for my skin color, but the texture of it seems really smooth. It definitely seems to be mattifying because that's how it dried on my skin when tested. I'm a fan of Jouer thanks to Birchbox, so that's what saved the upset of receiving another similar product.
Full size: $38

kate spade new york | Twirl: This too was another reason why I wasn't so happy with my box, at first.  It seems I never posted my March Birchbox, but if I remember correctly, I received this item in a previous box. So I was little bummed that I received again. However, as I thought more about it, I realized I actually liked this perfume the last time, so it wasn't a bad thing I got it. Now I have another sample of it, since I'm probably not going to buy this perfume because of the price.
Full size: $18-$80

Skin, An Apothecary |  Soy Body Whip in Poppy: This adorable little tub contains the best smelling lotion I have smelled in a while. It is so floral! Mind you, I'm not really a floral scent kinda gal. However, upon trying this I instantly fell in love with it. It most definitely is moisturizing. Very happy I received this because it's getting cooler up here in New England, and my skin is freaking out!
Full size: $27

twistband | Birchbox Custom Lace Hair Tie: This is self-explanatory, but let me just say I'm also very happy to get this. I've been mildly jealous at everyone else who has received this in a past box. I'm very happy I had a chance to get one, and I love this color very much! :)
Set of 6-12: $14-$22

Lifestyle Extra
Hollywood Fashion Secrets | Hollywood Fashion Tape: Oooh yeah! Tape.. can you say exciting?! :D I  can't. Haha. I'm glad this is an extra, because I probably won't use it much. But all my sarcasm aside, I'm kind of interested in trying these out. Not sure with what yet, but this is definitely a cool idea. If you don't know what these are, they are basically a double sided tape that you can use for clothing when you want it to stay a certain way. Like a shirt that seems to have a mind of it's own or something. Didn't make sense, huh? Click this!
Full size: $4.99-$8.99

Overall Opinion: I think I had too much sarcasm in this review, but I would like to blame my first impression of this box for that. I wasn't too thrilled about receiving the perfume or the Jouer tint. However, like I've said in my previous posts. I think this is a fun subscription service and it's better to look at what you like than what you didn't. Not everything will make you happy, and not every month will you think you got your $10's worth.
But in the end, I have to say this was a good box overall. I really liked the Color Club Nail Polish, the twistband hair tie, and the Poppy-smelling lotion! Again, the theme for this month was trends, so I think it was right on spot when it comes to that.

Side note:
Also, let me know what you think of this background and set up. I'm back at school so I have to work with what I got. Don't really have many pools up here to work with, especially now with Fall and Winter around.

Energetic Red by Sinful Colors

Brand: Sinful Colors
Name: Energetic Red
Price: $1.99

Application: This color was actually really nice to apply. You would think that it wouldn't be of great quality because of the price, but it went on pretty good. It went on pretty smoothly. I definitely needed a few layers, but between them it didn't get so streaky or goopy.

Color: I can't believe this color is so gorgeous. It is such a perfect bright red. The name fits it perfectly because it definitely looks "energetic". It's a perfect color for this time of the year, even if people might think so. It would stand out so much because of how bright it is.

Overall Opinion: I'm pleasantly surprised that I liked this color and the quality of it. For $1.99 this was a very good color, and if most of their colors will be like this, I will definitely be buying more from this brand.

First Day of Autumn

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing great! I know the blog has been a little slow, but I have been so busy in the past week. If you've read my tweets you would know I've had so much to do for school, and barely had time to do anything fun. I really miss writing posts, but it does take time to type each review up. I don't want to just upload an "ok" post that was rushed because of my lack of free time. As you can see, I still haven't gotten the hang of managing my school with my blog stuff.

Anyways, enough of that. Today is the first day of autumn! Yep, one of my favorite seasons(if not my fav). So to celebrate it I decided to take a little walk around my campus and take some photos. These photos above are the result of that. I really like how they came out because I wanted to show how much gorgeous colors are around here. My favorite shot from these is definitely the squirrel photo because the cutie was just laying there, and I happened to catch it when it was catching some rays. I also really liked the little butterfly on the flower because I had to chase it around to finally get a nice photo.

Hope you all have a great Autumn and that you're enjoying the chilly temperature! :)

Klout Perk: No Place Like Chrome by Essie (Mirror Metallics Collection)

Essie polish, description of collection, and sticker all came in the package.

If you don't know what Klout Perks are then you're missing out! The website Klout.com is a place where all your social media outlets are measured and you are ranked based on how active you are in them. Not only is it measuring how active you are, but most importantly if you are very influential. The more retweets, or comments you get back from people on things you share online, the higher you score goes. Basically, how much people react to your posts online is how your score is measured on this website. Based on this score you are allowed to receive certain "perks". These perks range from nail polish (like the one above) to discounts at your favorite tv show's store to tasty tea samples. You can only receive these if you are influential in that type of thing. So for example, people have given me +K's in Nail Polish which is one of the reasons I received the above item.

Essie is one the brands that is always on Klout. I have wanted to receive a bottle of their polish, but for the past few months my score was too low. However, this month I qualified and received this gorgeous color.

Brand: Essie
Name: No Place Like Chrome
Collection: Mirror Metallics
Price: $8.00

Application: The way it went on the nail was very smooth. You have to really spread it out so there is not a visible separation of where you applied because it is a metallic color. Any thick sides on the nail will appear visible if you don't really apply it evenly.

Color: This color is so beautiful. It definitely lives up to its collection name. It is very reflective, especially because of the shade of this particular color.

Overall Opinion: After trying this shade from the collection, I really felt like picking up the other ones. It is unlike any other metallic color I have used. With about one application you are pretty good which is great!

Hurricane, College, And Everything Else

As most of you might know, if you follow me on Twitter, I have started school again. I'm back in the lovely Massachusetts and couldn't be happier. It was a big struggle getting here in the first place. However, when you have risked everything to make your dreams come true, there is nothing left to do but to go forward with a positive attitude.

The week before coming to school was so nerve wracking because of Hurricane Isaac(Tropical Storm at that time). I found out about it towards the end of the week and the projected path kind of set off an alarm in my head. I made all the calls I needed to make to find out what my options were, since it was planning on passing by Miami the day I was leaving. However, I decided to just keep my plans how they were. I left early Sunday morning and left the airport with just rain and winds. I actually saw Mario Cantone aka Anthony, from Sex and the City, in the Newark airport when I was waiting for my connecting flight. I also managed to rip my toenail nail (part of it) when I was getting out of the airport, so that was a fun thing to deal with after arriving.

When I arrived in school I had my storage items waiting for me to pick them up and a room that needed to be moved around to my liking. Needless to say, that Sunday night I was exhausted from traveling, unpacking, and furniture moving. But that wasn't so bad. I loved seeing old friends again and having the comforts of living in a dorm.

Now, over a week later, I'm finally settling in and getting my schedules (blog and school) together. Many opportunities are showing up here and there, and it feels great to have them. I really wanted to share all this with you guys because I know I haven't been very active on my blog. I do have a lot of reviews that need to go up and I'm thinking there might be minimum one a week. As well as a mixture of other posts. In the meantime, I will be my usual daily posts. :) Hope everyone had a fun Labor Day weekend!

Brand: Circus by Andrea's Choice
Name: Ringmaster, Spectacle, Somersault
Price: will be available this Fall 2012 - not for sale yet.

I'm sure most of you have not heard of this nail polish brand before, but you might have heard of AndreasChoice. She happens to be a pretty popular YouTuber, but I personally have never heard of her or seen her videos. She is one of the Glam Bag girls which means that they are using this to their advantage, and promoting her colors in the bags.  I have to say that I personally didn't like these colors when I first received my first bottle. The application was very streaky and you have to apply a few coats to get a clean coat. However, after several attempts at applying these colors I have realized that packing it with a good amount and allowing the brush to spread on your nails (does that make sense?) allows a better application.

They are very bright, neon colors, which is probably another reason why I didn't like them at first. But I have slowly grown to love them! I wish I would have taken a photo of the disaster one of them created when it fell all over my floor! The bright pink one was all over the place and it took my friend and I so long to wipe it off with cotton balls and nail polish remover.

Overall, I think these are so great! Love how bright they are and how different they are from any other colors I own. I hope the price for these will be reasonable and let's hope they send us the rest of the collection in the future bags!
